Lunch at Cave Ox in Solicchiata , Between Linguaglossa and Randazzo

Driving along the scenic road between Linguaglossa and Randazzo, on the northern slope of Mount Etna, we stopped for lunch at Cave Ox a cozy osteria and wine bar known for its handmade pasta, Etna wines, and welcoming atmosphere.

Cave Ox is the kind of place where time slows down a blend of rustic stone walls, friendly service, and an incredible sense of authenticity. It’s part restaurant, part wine haven, and entirely Sicilian in spirit.

The Meal

We shared a simple fresh tomato and basil salad to start sweet cherry tomatoes, slivers of red onion, basil leaves, and a generous topping of local grated cheese. Drizzled with olive oil and served in a bright yellow ceramic bowl, it was the perfect light beginning.

Next came the pasta two dishes we couldn’t resist sharing

Macaroni with Etna Sausage Ragù

A hearty plate of hand rolled macaroni in a slow simmered tomato sauce made with Etna sausage, onions, carrots, and herbs. Rich, rustic, and deeply satisfying the perfect expression of Sicilian comfort food.

The Count’s Tagliatelle

A more decadent dish, featuring tagliatelle with wild greens, local sausage, cheese, garlic, and toasted breadcrumbs. The blend of creamy sauce and crisp crumbs made it impossible to stop at one bite.

We paired everything with a glass of House Etna Rosso, deep and earthy from the volcanic soil, and finished the meal feeling completely stuffed

Cave Ox’s interior has a casual elegance stone and wood mixed with touches of personality, like the curtain made entirely of wine corks and shelves lined with bottles from nearby vineyards such as Graci, Passopisciaro, and Tenuta delle Terre Nere.

Outside, the restaurant’s sign welcomes travelers passing between the mountain villages. It’s easy to miss if you’re not looking closely, but worth the stop.
