Best Photo Spots in Brussels Belgium at Christmas

Brussels, Belgium at Christmas feels quietly magical. Elegant façades glow after dark, historic squares are softly illuminated, and festive markets weave through the old city without overwhelming it. On our upcoming trip to Brussels, these are the best photo spots in Brussels at Christmas I’m looking forward to photographing. They feel especially atmospheric during the holiday season and perfect for capturing the city’s winter charm.

Grand Place

Grand Place is the most iconic place to photograph in Brussels, and at Christmas it is especially striking. The ornate guild houses are beautifully illuminated, and a large Christmas tree often anchors the square. In the evenings, light shows add drama to the façades, while early mornings offer the chance to photograph the square before it fills with visitors.

Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert

The Galeries Royales Saint Hubert feel timeless at Christmas. This elegant 19th century arcade is decorated with festive lighting, and the glass ceiling creates beautiful reflections throughout the day. It’s one of the locations I’m most excited to photograph for classic European holiday details café tables, glowing shop windows, and softly lit walkways.

Mont des Arts

Mont des Arts is one of the best vantage points in Brussels. From here, you can photograph the gardens in the foreground with the city stretching out beyond. During the Christmas season, the area is subtly lit and especially beautiful at blue hour, when the sky deepens and the city lights begin to glow.

Place Sainte Catherine

This neighborhood is one of the coziest areas of Brussels in winter. The church at Place Sainte Catherine provides a lovely focal point, and the surrounding streets are filled with seasonal lights and market stalls. It’s a place I hope to spend time photographing in the evening, when the neighborhood feels warm and lively.

Brussels Belgium Christmas Market (Plaisirs d’Hiver)

The Brussels Christmas Market spreads across several areas of the city center, offering countless festive photo opportunities. I’m looking forward to photographing smaller details here the Ferris wheel, illuminated chalets, and strings of lights woven through the streets rather than focusing only on wide crowd shots.

St. Michael and St. Gudula Cathedral

The cathedral is particularly atmospheric in winter, often illuminated for the season. It’s a spot I plan to photograph both during the day and after dark, experimenting with different angles to capture its scale and presence.

Rue de l’Étuve and Nearby Side Streets

The smaller streets near Grand Place are often the most rewarding. Rue de l’Étuve and nearby lanes feature cobblestones, overhead lights, and warmly lit cafés that feel especially inviting in December. These quieter streets are high on my list for capturing simple, atmospheric holiday scenes.

Tips for Photographing Brussels Belgium at Christmas

Early mornings are ideal for photographing Grand Place and Mont des Arts with fewer people. Blue hour works beautifully throughout the city, especially in arcades and market areas. After dark, focusing on light, reflections, and small details often captures the mood of the season best.
