The Family Photo Spots We’re Looking For in London at Christmas

The Family Photo Spots We’re Looking For in London at Christmas

ReveriePost.com – Photo Spots Series

This December, our family will be spending Christmas in London something I’ve dreamed of for years. I can already picture the lights reflecting on the Thames, the sound of carolers at Trafalgar Square, and the smell of roasted chestnuts drifting through Covent Garden.

While we’re there, I want to keep my camera ready and find the most beautiful photo spots around the city the kind that capture both the holiday sparkle and London’s timeless charm. These are the places at the top of our list.

Covent Garden

We’re planning to start here because it feels like Christmas wrapped up in cobblestone and fairy lights. Between the giant tree, the reindeer statue, and the market stalls, I know we’ll find several perfect backdrops for our first London family photo.
Photo note: I want to get there just before sunset when the lights begin to glow under the glass roof.

London Eye & South Bank

We’ll walk the South Bank one evening to take in the market stalls and river views. The London Eye lit up against the dark December sky should be stunning.
Photo note: I’m hoping to catch a wide shot from Westminster Bridge at blue hour with the Eye and reflections on the Thames behind us.

Trafalgar Square

Every year, Norway sends a Christmas tree to London as a gift, and it stands proudly in Trafalgar Square. I’d love a photo here in the evening, maybe while carolers are singing nearby.
Photo note: I’ll frame the shot so Nelson’s Column and St. Martin in the Fields peek through in the background.

Westminster Abbey & Big Ben

I can’t imagine leaving London without a family photo in front of Big Ben. I’m planning to go early in the morning while the light is soft and the streets are still quiet.
Photo note: I might use one of the red telephone booths along Parliament Street as a fun foreground very London.

Tower Bridge

This one is at the top of our list. We’ll probably go at dusk so the bridge lights shimmer on the water.
Photo note: I want to stand back on the Queen’s Walk so the whole bridge fits into the frame maybe even with a reflection in a puddle if it rains, hopefully it doesnt!!

Regent Street & Oxford Street

If we find an evening when we’re not too tired, we’ll stroll under the famous angels of light that float above the street.
Photo note: I’d love to capture the motion of London buses passing by while we’re standing in the glow.

Somerset House Ice Rink

Somerset House looks like something out of a Christmas card. Even if we don’t skate, I want to see the rink all lit up.
Photo note: The plan is to go right before sunset to catch the soft sky and golden lights reflected on the ice.

Leadenhall Market

I found photos of this market online the red and gold detailing under the glass ceiling looks beautiful.
Photo note: Mid morning light should be perfect for a few portraits here without too many crowds.

Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland

We’ll definitely spend some time here for hot chocolate and Christmas music. It looks like the perfect place for candid, happy photos especially on the Ferris wheel or carousel.

Notting Hill

On one of our free mornings, I’d like to wander through Notting Hill. The pastel houses decorated with wreaths feel so cozy.
Photo note: I’ll take photos along Portobello Road before the market crowds arrive.

A Few Photography Plans

London’s daylight fades fast in December, so we’ll aim for golden hour around 3:30 PM. Mostly, I want to capture us in the city walking, laughing, and seeing it all for the first time.

Looking Ahead

I can’t wait to share these photos when we get back. London at Christmas has always felt like a storybook setting.
