Turkmen Art and Rug

On a recent trip to Turkey during an excursion from our MSC cruise, we visited Turkmen Art and Rug Weaving Center. The experience was fascinating. We held a real silk cocoon, watched as yarn was spun, and saw skilled weavers crafting rugs by hand. They also served us warm tea and a snack while showcasing their beautiful rugs.
Viewing the Rugs
After our tea at the Turkmen Art and Rug Weaving Center, they invited us into a private room for a more in-depth presentation. At first, I had no plans to buy a rug and stepped outside when we were done. But once I left, I decided a handcrafted rug would be the perfect way to remember this once-in-a-lifetime adventure. I returned inside to purchase the rugs I had been eyeing from the Turkmen Art and Rug Weaving Center.
Inside, I completed the paperwork at the Turkmen Art and Rug Weaving Center. They explained that shipping could take up to four months. I later learned this is because all rugs from that period are shipped together to the U.S. before being delivered. When my rug finally arrived to the USA, they called to arrange delivery. To save them the drive, I chose to have it shipped (at no additional cost to me), though they were happy to deliver it in person.

When I unrolled the rug at home, it was even more stunning than I had imagined. The craftsmanship, the colors, and the story behind it make it a true heirloom. We couldn’t be happier with our purchase from the Turkmen Art and Rug Weaving Center. It’s a piece of our journey that we will cherish for years to come. We have a beautiful reminder of our trip to Turkey.
