Paddy’s Irish Pub in Cusco: The Highest Irish Pub in the World

When you think of Cusco, chances are Irish pubs don’t come to mind. But perched right above the main square sits Paddy’s Irish Pub, proudly claiming the title of the highest Irish pub in the world at 11,156 feet above sea level.

I’ll admit, I wasn’t sure I wanted to go to an Irish pub while in Peru. After all, Cusco is overflowing with history, culture, and incredible Peruvian cuisine—why detour to an Irish pub? But curiosity (and a bit of chilly weather) won me over. We decided to give it a try, and I’m glad we did.

Walking in, I was struck by the quirky mix—it wasn’t trying to be a pub transplanted from Dublin, but instead had its own Peruvian-Irish vibe. Dark wood interiors, lively atmosphere, and a menu that blended classic pub fare with some local twists. It felt both familiar and distinctly Cusco at the same time.

We visited in July, which is winter in Peru, and it was cold outside. Sitting in Paddy’s with a drink in hand, looking out over the square, was the perfect way to warm up and soak in the energy of the city from a different angle.

It may not be the first stop you picture when planning a trip to Cusco, but that’s what made it fun—it was unexpected, a little offbeat, and one of those experiences that adds another layer to your travels. Paddy’s might not replace a meal of Andean specialties, but for an evening of good energy and a story to tell, it’s worth stopping in.
