Best Photo Opportunities on Salina, Aeolian Islands

Salina, often called the greenest of the Aeolian Islands, is a dream for photographers. With volcanic peaks, charming fishing villages, and sunsets that turn the sea to gold, it offers countless spots to capture the island’s beauty. As I plan my trip, these are the photo opportunities I’m most excited to seek out.

Scenic & Natural Views

Pollara Crater & Sunset
If there’s one place you must take photos on Salina, it’s Pollara. The remains of a volcanic crater form sheer cliffs that drop dramatically into the sea. This is where Il Postino was filmed, and the sunsets here are legendary.

Monte Fossa delle Felci
At 962 meters, this is the highest peak on Salina. The hike up is worth it for sweeping views of the whole Aeolian chain. On a clear day, you can even see Stromboli puffing in the distance — a breathtaking shot to remember.

Monte dei Porri
For a shorter hike, Monte dei Porri offers equally dramatic views over Pollara and the northern coastline.

The shimmering salt lake that gave Salina its name makes for a unique shot. Combine this with seaside photos from Lingua’s long promenade, where locals stroll at sunset. And don’t forget Alberto’s café — a granita here is as photogenic as it is delicious.

Malfa
