Midnight in Mainz Germany

Midnight in Mainz Germany

New Year’s Eve in Mainz is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. If you’re planning to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Mainz, Germany, prepare for an unforgettable experience.

There is no official city fireworks display. At the stroke of midnight, the celebration belongs entirely to the people. Fireworks erupt from bridges, riverbanks, and side streets everywhere at once filling the sky in every direction.

We were staying at the Hilton Mainz, and at midnight we watched it all unfold right from our hotel window. The Rhine below reflected endless bursts of color while the sound rolled continuously through the city. It felt less like watching fireworks and more like being surrounded by them.

I’ve seen New Year’s Eve fireworks in cities around the world, but I’ve never seen anything like this so spontaneous, so communal, and so unforgettable.
