What to Do Përmet Albania
This is my list of ideas on what to do Permet Albania. We are spending one night here and staying at Mosaic House, using this as a relaxed stop between destinations.
About Përmet
Tucked into southern Albania along the Vjosa River, Përmet is a small, peaceful town known for its natural setting and strong food culture. Permet is surrounded by soft green mountains and a wide river valley, it feels quieter and more authentic than many other places in Albania.
Përmet is often associated with “slow food,” where meals are made with local ingredients and traditional methods. It’s not a destination filled with major attractions instead, it’s a place to slow down, enjoy nature, and experience a different pace of travel.
Things to Do in Përmet
Vjosa River Rafting
Rafting on the Vjosa River is one of the most popular activities in the area. The river is one of Europe’s last wild rivers, flowing freely through a wide, untouched valley. The rafting is generally easy to moderate, with gentle rapids and long calm stretches. It’s more about enjoying the scenery than adrenaline, making it a good option if you want something active but not intense.
Benja Hot Springs
Located just outside town, the Benja Hot Springs are one of the most unique spots near Përmet. Natural thermal pools sit beneath a historic stone bridge, with warm mineral water flowing through a narrow canyon. You can walk along the river to find quieter pools and take in the surrounding scenery. This is one of the most visually memorable places in the area.
Lengarica Canyon
The hot springs sit at the entrance to Lengarica Canyon, which can be explored on foot by following the river upstream. As you move deeper into the canyon, the walls become narrower and more dramatic. It’s a casual, slightly adventurous walk that may require stepping through shallow water.
Kadiu Bridge (Ottoman Bridge)
Often referred to as the Kadiu Bridge, this historic stone bridge is one of the most recognizable landmarks near Përmet. Its elegant arch spans the river just above the hot springs and adds a timeless feel to the landscape. It’s a great place to stop, take photos, and enjoy the setting.
St. Mary Church (Leusë)
Located in the nearby village of Leusë, this Orthodox church is known for its detailed frescoes and peaceful setting. The interior is richly decorated and offers a glimpse into Albania’s religious and artistic traditions. It’s a worthwhile cultural stop if you want to balance the natural scenery with something historic.
Slow Food in Përmet
Përmet is known for its strong food traditions and is often associated with Albania’s “slow food” culture. Meals here focus on local ingredients, seasonal cooking, and traditional preparation. Expect slow cooked meats, fresh cheeses, homemade bread, and local wine or raki. Dinner here is meant to be enjoyed at a relaxed pace.
Evening Walk
Përmet is small and easy to explore on foot. An evening walk through town and toward the river is a simple but enjoyable way to end the day. The atmosphere is calm and uncrowded, making it feel like a true break from busier destinations.
Final Thoughts
Përmet feels less like a sightseeing destination and more like a place to pause. This list reflects a mix of nature, light activity, and local experiences that can easily fit into a one-night stay without feeling rushed.
