St. Nicholas Church in Akrotiri

Right near Red Beach and just beyond Akrotiri, there’s a small white church that’s easy to miss if you’re focused on the cliffs.
This is Agios Nikolaos Church, St. Nicholas Church in Akrotiri.
It’s nothing like the famous blue domes in Oia. No dramatic staircase. No crowds lining up for photos. Just a simple white chapel, sitting quietly against the volcanic landscape.
That’s what I liked about it.
After standing under the red cliffs at Red Beach and thinking about the eruption that shaped this island, seeing this small church nearby felt grounding. The landscape here is rugged and raw. The church is calm and still.
It’s not a destination you plan your day around. It’s more of a pause. A reminder that Santorini isn’t only viewpoints and sunsets. There are small, everyday places tucked into the landscape too.
We didn’t stay long. Just long enough to take it in.
