On Christmas Day in Athens, we immersed ourselves in the city’s history and festive spirit. We enjoyed a leisurely exploration of charming neighborhoods, iconic landmarks, and shared delicious Greek dishes at a local eatery. The highlight was visiting Little Kook for dazzling decorations, concluding with cocktails overlooking the illuminated Acropolis.
The Italian Riviera’s Cinque Terre coast boasts five colorful, centuries-old villages perched on rocky cliffs. In December, the off-season, the villages are quiet and picturesque, adorned with Christmas decorations. We explored Manarola, with its world-record nativity scene, and hiked around the viilages of Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. Our apartment in Manarola offered stunning sea views and proximity to the nativity scene. We savored local specialties like pesto, trofie noodles, focaccia, and Vino Delle Cinque Terre. Despite most restaurants being closed, we enjoyed a wine tasting at Enoteca Internazionale in Monterosso. Parking in a nearby garage made our stay convenient before heading to San Gimignano.
Montagnana, Italy, is a historic walled city where we spent an evening during the Christmas season. We visited the vibrant Christmas market with medieval displays, enjoyed dinner at the medieval-themed Castillo de Bevillaqua, and planned our next visit to Cinque Terre. The experience blended history, culture, and festive charm beautifully.
Upon landing in Munich, we anticipated a long layover, which prompted us to reserve a Hilton room at the airport. After resting, we explored a nearby German Christmas Market filled with festive stalls, enjoying mulled wine and food. Dinner at Airbrau was delightful.
