Mimosa Flowers

Mimosa Flowers

This past spring, I traveled to Italy and encountered a flower I had never seen before—the Mimosa Flower. Its bright yellow blossoms filled vases in restaurants and shops, adding a cheerful touch to every space. I was surprised to learn that in Italy, women often give these flowers to each other, as their husbands don’t think or remember to buy them flowers. I think this same thing happens at my house too. A store employee told me that the mimosa is actually the symbol of International Women’s Day, a tradition dating back to 1946. This is a day to celebrate women’s achievements.

Curious about why I had never seen the mimosa flower in the United States, I did some research. The Flower, scientifically known as Acacia baileyana, thrives in USDA zones 6-9. While it could grow in certain parts of the U.S., it is considered invasive in several states. Despite its beauty, I won’t be planting the mimosa flower at home. Instead, I’ll just have to return to Italy in the spring to enjoy its vibrant blooms again.

ORDER ONLINE

I did find a few websites where I can order the cut flowers online. I found that fabulousflorals.com sell both fresh and dry mimosa flowers. They suggest you place your orders in advance because the blooms sell out quickly. This spring, I plan to celebrate the incredible women in my life with a flower that left a lasting impression on me.
