Under Sicilian Skies Our Visit to Gambino Winery

Nestled high on the northeastern slopes of Mount Etna, just outside the town of Linguaglossa, Gambino Winery is one of those places where time seems to slow down until you realize you only have an hour to take it all in.

We arrived without a reservation, thinking we might simply wander the grounds or enjoy a quick glass, but the tasting room was completely booked. To our surprise and gratitude, the staff found a way to squeeze us in for a one-hour tasting. It was the perfect example of Sicilian hospitality gracious, warm, and full of heart.
Inside, the atmosphere was lively yet refined. Glasses of Etna Bianco and Rosso lined the tables, each paired with small plates of local specialties aged cheeses, marinated olives, roasted eggplant, and sun-dried tomatoes. Every bite complemented the volcanic wines, which carry a distinct minerality and depth born from the mountain’s rich, dark soil.
Outside, the views were unforgettable. Rows of grapevines spilled down the hillside toward the shimmering Aeolian Sea, where the horizon seemed to melt into the sky. We paused by a weathered wine barrel set on the terrace, glasses glinting in the sunlight a simple moment that captured the essence of Sicily: beauty, generosity, and joy.
We ended our short visit by arranging to ship a few bottles home, a small way to keep this experience close long after leaving Mount Etna’s slopes.
If you plan to visit Gambino, make a reservation in advance. Tastings here are popular for a reason, and it’s well worth securing your spot online before you go.
