Tasting Chocolate While Exploring Bruges

Tasting Chocolate While Exploring Bruges

It’s almost impossible to walk through Bruges without being tempted by chocolate. The smell drifts from every corner of the old town warm, rich, and unmistakably Belgian. On our upcoming trip, I don’t plan to spend a full day hopping from shop to shop, but I do want to taste a few of the city’s best chocolates as we explore.

Here’s the list I’m keeping, a mix of local favorites, creative chocolatiers, and cozy spots for a mid afternoon treat.

The Old Chocolate House

Part chocolate shop, part tea room, this is where I plan to stop when we need a little break from walking. Upstairs, they serve hot chocolate made with real chocolate drops you stir into warm milk it looks like the coziest thing imaginable on a chilly Belgian day.

What I’ll try: a cup of dark hot chocolate and maybe share a waffle.

Confiserie De Clerck

One of Bruges’ oldest family-run chocolate shops, De Clerck feels more local than touristy. It’s a simple, friendly place to pick out a few pralines or caramels by weight while walking between sights.

What I’ll try: their classic pralines and maybe chocolate covered orange peel.

Pralinette

Hand Rolled Truffles

I want to stop here for their hand rolled truffles and to peek at the workshop where everything’s made. The aroma alone is supposed to draw you in from the street.

What I’ll try: a few dark truffles to share.

The Chocolate Line

This one is pure creativity chocolate with wasabi, bacon, or even tequila lime. It’s the kind of place where you pop in out of curiosity and walk out with something completely unexpected.

What I’ll try: one adventurous praline.

Chocolates & Happiness

A Sweet Souvenir

Before leaving Bruges, I’ll stop here for a small box to take home. Their pralines are beautifully packaged perfect for gifts or to enjoy later with coffee back at the hotel.

What I’ll try, the caramel hazelnut praline.

My Plan

We’ll wander the city at our own pace exploring the canals, shops, and Christmas markets and just let the chocolate stops happen naturally. A truffle here, a hot chocolate there. No schedule, just a day of beautiful streets and sweet discoveries.

Bruges feels like the kind of place where you don’t need a plan you just follow your senses.
